Labor Day in Chicago

We spent the weekend in Chicago. Almost didn't go when the tornado sirens went off Friday night. Nothing like a drought for 5 months, and then torrential rain storms the one weekend everyone wants to go out of town. But once we got across the river, the rain lightened up with only occasional outbursts as we headed north on I-55.
Courtney has taken up triathlons as a new hobby. She had a wet suit hanging in her bathroom that she wears when she practices her swimming in Lake Michigan. It was hard to imagine swimming in the lake this past weekend. The waves were so strong, they were crashing into the seawall and spewing water about 10 ft into the air. Courtney also bought a new bike specially built for competition. She even has shoes that clip onto the pedals. Kind of puts my new bike to shame.
We stopped at Ikea on the way home. I wanted to buy a chair and ottoman for the basement bedroom, but Bruce wanted to buy kitchen cabinets for the laundry area. Bruce won. The cabinets came in 23 different boxes - a real do-it-yourself project (luckily they all fit in the car). We got the European style where the cabinet sits up on legs - a really practical option for a basement, though with all the plumbing work we've had done, I think I'd shoot myself if the basement flooded.
