We took a side trip to Colmar today. We had to laugh at the train station, because the second stop after Colmar was St Louis. If only it were that close.
Colmar is on the Alsatian wine route. So far, every Alsatian wine and beer that I've tasted has been very, very sweet - even too sweet for my taste. The town itself looks a lot like Strasbourg, but with smaller streets and many, many more tourists.
We stopped in at St Martin's church. It's much smaller than most of the churches we've been in, but the carved wooden altars were exquisite. Up to this point, most of the statues have been carved out of marble or stone. This was the first time we saw them in wood, and the detail was unbelievable.
