I finally got a break on my last day in Portland to hike through Washington Park. There is a nice wooded trail that starts at the zoo, winds past the rose garden, and ends up downtown (downhill all the way). I tried to catch a picture of Mt Hood through the trees (the snow-capped peak was really stunning), but it doesn't show up well in this picture.
The trail also goes past the Japanese Garden. I had my sketchbook with me, so I stopped to do a little drawing (first time I've had a chance in several weeks).
I ended this crazy, whirlwind travel adventure on Saturday. I thought it was fitting that my flight went through Las Vegas with all the jingling slot machines lining the aisles of the airport waiting areas (though I'll have to say that this time, there were more people lined up at the iPad/Kindle recharging stations than at the slots) Luckily my connecting flight was on-time, because hearing the Wheel of Fortune slogan over and over for an hour was enough to set anyone's teeth on edge. But there's never a dull moment when flying these days. I thought I'd seen it all until I got onto the flight and noticed that one young woman had brought her dog onboard (a 90 lb Rottweiler). I guess he thought Southwest's policy of "open seating" applied to him, because he was sitting in a window seat, tongue hanging out, watching the baggage handlers load the luggage onto the plane.
