This week I'm running two kids' camps - LEGO Engineering and the Physics of Toys. The funny thing is I've got 12-15 year olds in the LEGO camp and 8-10 years olds in the physics camp. The LEGO kids are building robots to perform tasks on Mars. Since Mars is known for its massive dust storms, we built robots to clean the "dust" (red LEGOs) off of tiny solar panels today. Very cute.
The physics kids spent the afternoon bouncing balls and blowing bubbles. Bruce cut me several lengths of wire, so they could create their own bubble wands. I was a little nervous about this camp, because it's hard to compete with cell phones, tablet computers, and video games with only Hot Wheels cars (yesterday) and spinning tops (tomorrow), but I'm guessing that the kids are young enough that they still get excited by the simple things. Or maybe, they've never seen this stuff before... who knows.
