Today the teachers built walls - real honest-to-goodness walls using hammers and nails. But they used "green" construction techniques - 2x6's on 24" centers, rather than 2x4's on 16" centers. Made a lot of sense to me and the walls looked so much cleaner. They even learned to install windows and insulation - all in one day. Of course, by the end of the day, they were pretty hot, dusty, and sweaty, but they all looked very professional in their little hard hats. Some of them said they felt inspired to go home and add a room onto the back of the house. Who knows... with the way teaching is going, it may be a new career opportunity for them.
