Back-to-School

I've been avoiding going over to the park in the middle of the day, because it has been packed with people enjoying our unseasonably mild summer. But since school started up again, I thought it would be less crowded. Unfortunately, the college students were out en masse mid-morning walking on the bike trail on their way to class. I guess they don't have 7:00 am classes any more like they did when I went to college.
I got a new bike bag and fenders for my bike. The bike bag is really cool - almost like a little suitcase. It just snaps on and off and even has fold-down sides for storing clothes in case I ever decide to take my bike on an overnight trip. It was a pain to put on though. Just a few screws and a bracket, but nothing fit right.
I ended up going over to the Botanical Garden - another place I've been avoiding, because it is so popular in summer. There were still lots of people there (mostly retirees), but the flowers were absolutely gorgeous. Lots of volunteers were out pruning the gardens. This guy was wearing hip waders and pruning the pads out of the lily pond. He even had a blue floating garbage can behind him that he threw the yard waste into - clever.
I got a chance to do a little sketching, Some times it's tricky doing watercolor in the sun - it tends to dry the paint before I can get it on the paper.
