On our last day in the UK, we took a train to Oxford. Bruce wanted to see the University (turns out there are actually 38 different colleges in Oxford). While there is some amazing medieval architecture, the only building we found with the name of the university on it, was the brand new modern library (not really very impressive).
The building that used to be the old library has been turned into a hotel. Had we known there was going to be so much to see, we would have gotten a reservation here and spent the night.
One of the neat things about Oxford is that several of the scenes from the Harry Potter movies were filmed here, like the Bodleian Library,
Radcliffe Camera ("camera" just means "room"),
and the Bridge of Sighs. There were so many narrow alleys and cobblestone streets that I felt like we were walking through Diagon Alley looking for the Leaky Cauldron.
I could have spent an entire week here with my sketchbook, but it was extremely crowded and it started to rain. Maybe I'll get to come back on another visit, but if there were this many people in late September, I can't imagine how crowded it would be on a sunny day in the summer.
