I needed to go to my Portland company to see some new products (robots, of course!), so I stopped in Seattle for a few days. Normally Seattle is rainy and cold this time of year, but the skies were clear and blue causing everyone to get out and enjoy the weather. I walked over to Seattle Center intending to visit the Museum of Pop Culture.
They have lots of interesting, though often bizarre sculptures outdoors. You can see how large this giant eraser is by comparing it to the 2 tiny people standing off to the right.
There was a gigantic rope climbing structure and slides that Lincoln would have had a field day on.
But I actually never made it inside the museum. I kept seeing school groups heading toward the Armory to Winterfest. It was funny seeing all the unique ways teachers had of corralling their students together so they wouldn't get separated from the group. These kids were wearing bright yellow Super-hero capes.
The Armory is basically a giant food court with lots of open seating. There were several school groups playing Christmas carols for Winterfest. It was a very festive atmosphere and significantly cheaper entertainment than the museum ($33 for a museum ticket... goodness Seattle is expensive!).
There was a giant model railroad display in the middle of the Armory. Kids could help the conductor drive the different trains.
No visit to Seattle is complete without a visit to Pike Place Market. I stopped off for lunch one day and got some smoked salmon chowder.
Brian took the day off on Wednesday so I spent the afternoon and evening at his house. He has the most massive computer monitor I've ever seen - 3 screens in one. I've heard of multi-tasking with 2 screens, but never 3.
Amber was on-call working from home, but she spent most of the afternoon making a huge dinner - steaks, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, homemade bread, and 2 kinds of pie. I felt guilty, because Brian and I sat on the couch watching a movie while she did all the work.
Brian and Amber got 2 new kittens at Thanksgiving. When you get 2 animals together, it can be kind of chaotic - kind of like having 2 toddlers in the house. One kitten is definitely the more dominant member of the pair (just like Melissa's 2 dogs). The kittens kept climbing up the Christmas tree, which explained why there weren't very many ornaments on the tree. But like most young pets, they ran out of steam after a while and spent most of the afternoon sleeping together in a basket. After all that running around, I felt like joining them.
