Happy Birthday Michele

It's official. I am a Medicare card-carrying Silver Sneaker - a group I used to make blatant fun of, but now have joined. YIKES! I took one of my quickie trips to KC to celebrate. I have been making American Girl doll clothes and accessories for Violet for years, so I dropped off the whole load, including a boyfriend (Bob) for her doll Mia. I didn't think about making any extra clothes for Bob, but that's going to have to be next on my list as he didn't care for the dress and hair bows that Violet changed him into.
I noticed the kids had a robot dog sitting on one of their toy shelves. I hadn't seen this particular model before, but you operate it with a remote controller. The dog can move around, sing, dance, and even fart - not exactly an educational feature, but the kids thought it was hysterical. It's in Violet's hand in the photo, but Lincoln was just as adept at controlling it as she was.
It was a glorious weekend, so we took the kids to Railroad Days in Pleasant Hill. I was particularly fascinated with this part of town, because it contains the trailhead for the new Rock Island bike trail - a 46 mile spur off the Katy Trail. It's one of those trails on my bucket list.
There were several things for kids to do at this festival. This man owned a landscape service that specialized in outdoor ponds. His display was filled with lily pads and goldfish, but Lincoln was more interested in the model train he had running around the base of the pond.
Several people had spin-the-wheel games set up in their booths. Violet ended up taking home a color book, a water bottle, stickers, and a ton of candy.
There was also an Indian village set up on the grass. One young girl was baking bread in a Dutch oven. After watching all the trouble she went through, I'll stick with buying my bread at the grocery store. We ended the afternoon at the Creamery, because they were giving away free scoops of ice cream. Yum!
