We had our first official robotics tournament this weekend with 4 "seasoned" refs and 1 rookie.
This year's game has a "battleBots" flavor compared to past games. There is a bridge that spans both competition fields and the robot that ends the game at the top, gets bonus points (a King of the Hill thing). It doesn't matter who gets there first, because one robot can push the other robot off. It makes the game a bit of a knuckle-biter.
This all-girls' team was from Immacolata, the same elementary school that Courtney went to. Their little robot made it to the top of the bridge and was almost pushed off by the 8th grade boys' robot that was about 4 times as big (I nicknamed it "Jaws"), but luckily time ran out and the girls got the points. Way to go, girls!!
