December - Week 3

We have footings! Even though they've been getting snow in Colorado, the construction crew was able to dig our basement and pour the footings this week. At first I had a little trouble understanding what I was looking at. The left half is the kitchen and offices; the right is the great room, bedrooms, and bathrooms.

I think the pictures give the impression that the house is being built on a flat lot. But there is a mountain of dirt on the right side that will be spread back around the foundation once it is poured.

And speaking of snow, we got a little more this week. We're in that time of year where it's brutally cold one day and warm the next. My new Black Friday snow boots arrived, but I waited for one of the warm days to try them out with a walk around the neighborhood. I'm having trouble adjusting to the cold even with thicker clothes.

Every year at this time, I usually host a Christmas party for my teacher friends. But with the quarantine restrictions, I decided to try doing it on Zoom. We always do a gift exchange - kind of a Secret Santa, but we call ourselves Angel Pals (quirks of teaching at a Catholic school). It was a bit tricky to do virtually, but with so many places offering free shipping and Black Friday discounts, we managed to ship each other gifts and not open them until our party on Saturday.

My Angel Pal went crazy and gave me a set of packing cubes (for when we can travel again), some gloves, and 3 kinds of chocolate. So much for my New Year's resolution to lose weight. But in reality, most of the chocolate will probably be gone by January 1st.
