December - Week 4

After a 6-year hiatus from geocaching, I decided to get back into it as a way to add a little "excitement" to my daily walks around the block. Technology has changed a bit since 2014. You don't need to use a separate GPS. I just found the cache via an app on my phone.

Courtney and I had a Zoom painting day. I decided to test out some of my new art supplies by drawing them. You can tell which paint box is the new one, because it's very clean. The new paints are interesting, because they all have a gray cast like pencil leads. I think they'll come in handy, because I like painting old rusty things.

I got a note from Aetna offering me a gift card if I went online and tried out some of their Silver Sneakers Zoom classes. They're actually kind of nice - only 45 minutes long and there's a wide variety to choose from. Though I'll have to admit to being a bit out of shape. Walking doesn't exercise very many muscles except your legs.

I've been testing out my new robot kit. I like it a lot, because you can make some really small, but sophisticated robots. This little robot (shown in the back) plays basketball (that big contraption in the front is the goal). Tricky (the robot) can pick up the ball and detect the goal with his color sensor (you can't see it, but he's standing over a green plate). When he flings the ball into the goal, it triggers 2 darts that shoot up into the air. I'm not sure what the darts have to do with the traditional game of basketball, but I'm sure it is a fun outcome for kids - a robot's way of doing a "high-five."

We've been having some nice sunny weather, so Bruce and I decided to take a hike in Hawn State Park. It's been difficult to find a good time to go, because it's either been too wet (this park is very rocky) or too popular (they've been closing the gates if too many people go to help with social distancing). But luckily the day we went, we only passed one other person hiking on the trail. I hope this virus is over before we get to Colorado, because I know those trails are even more popular.
