We've Got Walls!
Even though Colorado is known as a great skiing destination, they've had warmer weather there than we've had here, so the contractor has been able to make great progress on the house. I can even understand what I'm looking at now. The master bedroom doesn't have any windows on the side, because technically that's where the closet and bathroom are. But the master's not windowless. There's a big bay window that juts out from the back of the house.
Mine and Bruce's offices are on the front of the house with the front entry hall in between them. The whole back is an open great room/kitchen. I keep freaking out about the lack of trees, but if I never have to hear another leaf blower, I'll die happy.
It was another "busy" albeit virtual week. The robotics refs had a practice session. I learned how to make Breakout Rooms on Zoom so we put the different playing fields in their own rooms. This is Fred's table, not mine, but all the fields are identical. Or rather, they're supposed to be the same. I'm a bit worried, because every year there's always at least one team that builds their models backwards (as if they're looking in a mirror). I think there's going to be a lot of "benefit of the doubt" in this year's competition.
We actually got together in person for about 5 minutes to pick up score sheets. Notice my snazzy referee-striped mask (we all have one). They are very festive-looking, but thank goodness we don't have to wear them during a virtual competition. I had to keep pulling mine down, because it's so large, it keeps hitting me in the eyeballs.
Every Sunday I join the Chicago Urban Sketchers with their weekly sketch. We paint something based on a theme and then post our pictures to Facebook. This week, it was my turn to pick the theme. As you probably guessed, I chose "Zoomin' In." Luckily, I was able to paint this picture before everything was buried under the 3 inches of snow we got on Wednesday.
I really didn't care what anyone painted. I was trying to be clever and host a Zoom-share in addition to the Facebook post (hence the theme). It was so nice to actually talk to people instead of just reading their comments on Facebook.
I had my second German class on Thursday. In my opinion the teacher could move a little faster. I kind of feel the way Brooke T does.
But luckily our teacher pointed us to some videos on YouTube that are much livelier. This is Anya who is an amazing speaker (probably because she's from Germany). I finally learned what that odd-looking B character means (double-S like a hissing snake). So now I can introduce myself in German and count to 10. Thank you, Anya.
I finished off the week with a painting session with Violet and Courtney. Our library has been offering free art classes on CreativeBug, so we all did some of the watercolor lessons. Given that it's pouring down rain today, I think this was a good way to spend Saturday morning.
