On Monday I was going to meet a friend in Washington, MO for lunch, but I decided to leave early and do some sketching along the river. When I got there, the park was packed with a Memorial Day celebration. I think half the people in town were either playing John Philip Sousa songs in the brass band or sitting in chairs under the pavilion watching.
At the end of the musical program, a military honor guard did a 21-gun salute, and then about 30 fishermen had a parade of boats down the river. All the boats were decorated with American flags. It was really quite fun to watch...
and listen to as I was doing my sketch. I got a bit sun-burned painting pictures of the train and the station. It's been over 18 months since I've been outdoors for an extended period of time. Luckily the restrooms in the park were OPEN!! Oh, the things we took for granted pre-COVID.
