Out with the Old; In with the New

To celebrate my last day in St Louis, I went out to Ted Drewes with some friends. We had Cardinal Sins - a big dollop of frozen custard topped with whole cherries and smothered in hot fudge. This was a big month for milestone birthdays. Carol (far right) was turning 70 on Tuesday,

the same day that my nephew, Michael, was turning 40,

and the day before my sister, Karen, was turning 65. I think Karen's dog, Billie, got more presents than she did. Michael got to go to Top Golf for his birthday. I got to pack up the car and drive across Kansas.

But it was worth it when we drove up to our new house. Actually it isn't ours for another week. As you can see, it's not quite finished, but we spent a couple hours with the builder going over how everything works. We even had to have lessons on how to open the windows - nothing is the same as the old houses we're used to living in.

I absolutely love our neighborhood. Denver is riddled with bike trails - so many interconnecting ones that it's hard not to get lost. But I figure I've got the entire summer to figure it out. My goal is to make it to Cherry Creek Park and back by September. That's only about 25 miles round trip, but the trails on Google Maps look like a mass of spaghetti.

Since my last social event in St Louis was going out to eat, I figured my first social event in Denver should be the same. So I called up a former student and we met up for breakfast burritos - not exactly Ted Drewes, but I'm sure it won't take me long to find the best ice cream store.
