Oktoberfest

Bruce and I went to Oktoberfest this past weekend. No, not the one in Munich, Germany (that was cancelled this year due to COVID... again!!!). We had to settle for an Oktoberfest party at the neighborhood clubhouse. While Colorado certainly has mountains like the German Alps, the food they served was a far cry from traditional German fare. They served Coors light beer (A&W root beer for the teetotalers) and Auntie Anne's pretzels for the cocktail hour. The catered dinner wasn't too bad, but I think Bruce makes better brats on our grill.

On Sunday, I took a charcuterie class. Charcuterie is an appetizer (usually meats, cheeses, grapes, nuts, and olives) served on a decorative board. During the first half of the class, we made our boards by immersing rocks, jewels, shells, and glitter in liquid resin.

In the second half of the class, we learned how to assemble the food in a tray so it would look attractive. I usually just buy one of those veggie trays from the grocery store when I need to bring an appetizer to a party, so this class was really beneficial to me (not to mention tasty!).

The temperature is supposed to drop later this week, so I hopped on my bike and went for a ride on the High Plains trail. This trail runs along the freeway, so it isn't nearly as flat as the creek trails. One of the nice things about the cooler weather is we can see the mountains from our neighborhood. I never realized they were that close, because there's been so much smoke in the air this past summer. I'll have to bundle up and go back out with my sketchbook, because those views are amazing.
