Robotics Post-COVID Style
This past weekend I refereed a robotics tournament in Denver. I know everyone is experiencing the same post-COVID restrictions around the world, but it's a little exhausting to referee in a noisy gymnasium while wearing a mask. Several of the high school kids wore goofy hats on top of that, so all you saw were a pair of eyes. It kind of felt like working with a bunch of Muslim women wearing burkas, but then burkas don't have big googly eyes on top.
Bruce and I have been getting the Blue Apron meal service for the past several months. This week, we opted for the Thanksgiving feast - a turkey breast, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, Brussel sprouts, and apple pie, all made from scratch. Bruce offered to do the cooking, since he typically cooks our Thanksgiving turkey. The trouble was, none of the directions were anything like the way he usually prepares the meal. You were supposed to cook the turkey at 425°, which essentially turned the turkey into jerky. Guess we won't be using that recipe again.
Good news on the house construction next door. They finally came out and installed the underlayment for the stonework, so no more flapping Tyvek every time the wind blows. That noise was driving us crazy, especially since it was right outside our bedroom window.
Now that Christmas is approaching, Starbucks put peppermint mochas back on the menu (my favorite). The weather has been flip-flopping all over the place, but one day it was so warm that everyone put summer clothes back on and sat outside to celebrate. It felt weird, though, wearing shorts and drinking from a Christmas cup.
The leader of our bike club is on vacation this week in England, so I organized an impromptu ride around the neighborhood bike path. Even Bruce decided to join us (far right). It was pretty cold out, so we only rode up to the top of the hill for a group photo and then headed over to a nearby cafe for a late breakfast. I thought we might burn off the calories from our bike ride, but the portions were HUGE. Bruce and I ended up taking half of ours home and finishing it off for dinner.
