New Year's Resolutions

Last year I decided to try logging active minutes, since I spend so much time doing outdoor activities. My goal was 40,000 minutes, which averages out to 110 minutes a day. You wouldn't think doing something active for 2 hours a day would be that difficult, but when it's day after day, that's a pretty big challenge. I ended up logging almost 35,000 minutes - 5,000 short of my goal, though those were VERY active minutes (bike riding, hiking, swimming, etc). I didn't count simple things like house cleaning or grocery shopping. But it's a lot easier to track steps, especially when wearing a fitness tracker.

In 2021, I walked 2,689,383 steps. That's the equivalent of 1,345 miles. I could have walked to Kansas City twice. Or I could have walked all the way to Seattle or Chicago once (though it's much faster and easier to fly).

I think I'm going to keep logging my steps in 2022, but I don't think I'm going to set a goal. I love riding my bike, swimming, and playing pickleball, but those activities don't register on a fitness tracker. I think, instead, I'll just vow to stay active - easy to do in Colorado even when it's cold. Last week, the bike club celebrated our last ride of the year by riding over to Le Peep for brunch (20 miles round trip). It was only 16 degrees outside when we started our ride, and by the time we got to the restaurant our fingers were frozen. I celebrated with the french toast, which was delicious (as soon as my fingers thawed out enough to pick up the fork).
