China Trip

For our 35th wedding anniversary Bruce and I decided to take a trip to China with Dr Tai, the Chinese teacher from the local Jesuit high school. The theme of this trip was to visit the ancient capitals of China to experience some of the culture and learn a little about the history. Sixteen of us (a mix of students, teachers, and spouses) flew to Beijing via Chicago – a not unpleasant 13-hour flight, especially since Bruce was able to upgrade our tickets to business class with his frequent flier miles. We arrived around midnight, which translated to 11:00 am here at home (so when we were going to bed there, people were just getting up here). We retrieved our luggage, piled onto a bus, and immediately drove into gridlocked traffic (AT MIDNIGHT!!). This turned out to be a running occurrence throughout the trip.
