Sainte Genevieve

We went on an adventure today to Sainte Genevieve, an historic town in southeastern Missouri purported to have the greatest concentration of French Colonial buildings in North America. We stayed here several years ago when we went to the MOGA geocaching weekend, but haven't gotten back until today. First we did a little browsing at a giant antique mall. Supposedly, they had 600 merchants. We only covered about half, before heading off to lunch at the Anvil Saloon. The place was packed and the food was absolutely fabulous. I had the special - chicken fried steak with real milk gravy. After lunch we walked around the town a bit (that took about 5 minutes). I saw a sign announcing a bicentennial celebration for the New Madrid earthquakes. I came home and googled it, and sure enough, this is the 100 year anniversary of those earthquakes. The first one hit on December 16, 1811 (7.2 on the Richter scale). There were 3 more after that with the last one coming on February 7, 1812. Kind of a strange thing to "celebrate."The weather outside was much too nice to waste indoors, so we headed over to Hawn State Park to do a little hiking. We went up along the bluffs - an easy climb with all the foliage gone for the winter.
