Chinese Lantern Festival

I met a friend for lunch at the Botanical Garden and we were lucky enough to stumble on the setup for the Chinese Lantern Festival. Obviously, these displays will be breathtaking at night when they are illuminated, but they were pretty incredible on our sunny visit.
This particular dragon was being constructed entirely of pottery. If you look closely, you'll see the "scales" along the body are actually plates, and the tail is made from tiny tea cups. The plates and cups are held in place with string woven into a star-shaped "knot." It was fascinating to watch them weave this together, especially since one dragon was about 100 feet long (and there were two of them!).
The colors were so brilliant in the silks for all the displays, especially since everything is so clean right now. I hope we don't get one of our notorious hail storms this week.
