Straw Rockets

Only a couple school days left for the seniors. I had a Boeing engineer come speak to them about aeronautics and the space program - always a popular talk. Then the guys got to make some simple straw rockets. Their first couple designs didn't fly very far (too heavy), but they started getting the hang of wing and tail fin design, and came close to hitting the windows at the far end of the classroom. The spirit of competition will inspire my students to do just about anything. The seniors decided to take it upon themselves to dress up every day this week to celebrate the end. Yesterday was "cowboy" day - hence the hat, scarf, and boots. Fairly tame, though many of them wore the scarf around the bottom of their faces like outlaws. I wonder what Monday's theme will be???
