This week I ref'd with Walter and the Ram (Walter is the one on the left). I think the Ram was supposed to be the school mascot.
One of the teams had the cutest crocheted hats. They were supposed to look like the heads on the little LEGO people. I took their picture so my sister, the crochet whiz, could see if she knew how to make them. Maybe I'll make one for myself to wear next year.
After the main competition, we had a second event called,
Blind Pirate's Challenge. It was meant to be a time killer to give the teams something to do while we waited for the judges to calculate the final scores. It was pretty much chaos. They put 2 robots on a field together to see how many points they could score. Mostly they just tore the field up running over everything. They made the refs dress up like pirates. I was wearing a black head scarf like Fred, but you can't see it, because it kept slipping off. You can see my parrot though - he was duct taped to my shoulder. I get 2 weeks off before I have to ref again. These kids are wearing me out.
