At this month's Journal Club meeting we made Pysanky eggs - a type of decorated Ukrainian Easter egg. The eggs were gorgeous when finished, but it was a really involved process. You had to draw a design on the egg with a pointed stylus dipped in hot wax, dip the egg in dye, and repeat. The more drawing and dipping, the more colorful the egg. The wax keeps the colors from running together. I think the worst part of the process was the final step - drilling a hole in the shell and flushing out the raw egg (kind of gross and slimy). It was a fun activity, but I think I'll stick with hard boiling a dozen eggs and coloring them with an Easter egg kit from Walmart.
