Selfies

Everyone is taking "selfies" these days - self-portraits with your cell phone. It was all the rage at Sunday night's Oscar's when Ellen Degeneres tweeted a selfie of herself in front of the audience. So when I met my friend, Joyce, for lunch on Fat Tuesday, I decided to try to take my own selfie. After all, I've got the same Samsung cell phone that Ellen used to take her selfie. It should have been easy, right? It took me a few minutes to find the button to switch the camera so that it was shooting at me instead of out at the mall. Then I had to find a place to put my thumb (it kept covering up the lens). For some reason, I'm looking off to the side while Joyce is looking right at the camera (I think I was struggling to push the right button to actually take the photo while keeping my thumb out of the way). I also learned a tip from Ellen - I need to hold the camera above my face rather than below (much more flattering). Either that or wear a scarf like Joyce did to hide all the wrinkles in my neck. I think it was a lot easier when we were teenagers and you could put a quarter into a photo booth and get back a strip of 4 pictures.
