We went on another geocaching spree to check off more of our Delorme map pages - 12 this time in northwest MO. We drove up I-29, crossed over to I-35, and came back down - a very big triangle. Finding geocaches up near the Iowa border was a little tricky. They are few and far between, plus only half the map page is in Missouri. The other half is in Iowa, and geocaches on that half don't count. We ended up on only two gravel roads (surfaces I avoid). One was in Mt Moriah - a town with a population of only 75 people. I think two of them were sitting in rockers watching us as we looked for the cache in their "city" park.
After a long day of driving, we stopped for the night at the Elm's Hotel & Spa in Excelsior Springs. It's a nicely restored historic hotel, but I was a little disappointed that all the old mineral water baths were now controlled by the spa and grossly expensive to get access to. Luckily, they had a regular chlorinated pool that we could jump into (it was pretty hot and humid). We waked across the street to a barbecue restaurant and then played a game of croquet before turning in for the night.
