Social Media
The other day I was reading the blog of a 30 year old woman who lives in Chicago when I noticed a string of tiny icons under her name. I recognized the first one with the weird B shape, because that's the symbol for Blogger. By hovering over the other icons, I found out they stand for Facebook, Twitter, You Tube, Instagram, Google Plus, Pinterest, Flicker, Share This, Vimeo, Linked In, and Rich Site Summary. Evidently if you really want to be "connected," you need to participate in all these different apps. How does this woman get anything done during the day if she's spending all her time managing her social media? I've been buying some Christmas presents off Amazon and after you click the "Purchase" button, it asks you if you want to send a "tweet" out to your friends telling them what you just bought. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the surprise? I'm really nervous with all the new "smart" devices they have on the market that someone is going to invent a toilet that alerts the world every time you flush the handle. What a world we live in.
