Road Trip

Bruce and I decided to take a little road trip to Cuba. Not Cuba the country... Cuba, MO. We thought we'd do a little antiquing, since it was too hot outside to hike. We found 2 antique malls right at the freeway exit and luckily they were both air-conditioned. I was a little bummed, though, since most of the antiques on display were items I grew up with. No more Victorian side tables or Depression glassware. We saw rotary-dial wall phones, CorningWare bowls, cassette tape players, and those big old ash trays that people used to put out on their coffee tables. I should probably start taking better care of my Tupperware. It will probably be the next antique.
Cuba is most known for its 12 historic murals that are painted on the sides of buildings along old Route 66. I tried to do a little sketching near this one next to the Four Way Cafe, but the sun was too intense. I was sweating all over the paper before I hardly got my pencil out.
We stopped for lunch at the Missouri Hick Bar-b-q. I didn't think it would be that crowded, being in such a little town, but the place was packed. We've passed the billboard for this restaurant a million times (every time we drive down I-44). I think if we'd known how good it was, we would have stopped here more often. I had the pulled pork sandwich and baked sweet potato - Yum!
