We've been hearing about the solar eclipse for months, mostly because totality zone runs right through Missouri. I found out that our house was only 1 block away from the "complete" totality zone (in other words, you would get to see blackout for about 2 minutes and 28 seconds). I decided I could live with just 30 seconds of totality, so we watched the eclipse from our back yard. I'm so glad we did, because some of our friends who traveled out of town missed the whole thing because of cloud cover. You never can trust the weather in the Midwest. However, it was very exciting to see the moon cover the sun, and some of our neighbors must have thought so, too, because they started shooting off fireworks. I went over to my old high school on Friday and helped them set up for their Eclipse Day barbecue. They were serving Sun Chips and Moon Pies. Clever!
