But I also went to a few technical workshops. One of the big trends in science education is DNA transformation - not something I am familiar with at all, but I thought I should at least check it out. I went to a workshop that sounded vaguely understandable, because it had an artistic component. We were supposed to draw a picture out of protein plasmids on a gel plate. After the plate sat in the incubator for a day, you would be able to see the design with a fluorescent light. I was probably the most clueless person in the room, but my design won. I drew a picture of the St Louis Arch - not shown here because I don't know what in the world I would do with it. Unfortunately the prize was another DNA kit (which I donated to my old school - they seemed to know what to do with it).
