Courtney Visit

Courtney came to visit for a few days, so like usual we hit the ground running. We went on a couple hikes. The weather for August was surprisingly mild.
We got a chance to do quite a bit of sketching. We did this scene from different perspectives. Courtney's is on the left (she likes to do scenery and people); mine is on the right, because I prefer painting buildings.
One day we walked past a Contemporary Art Museum, so we went in and took a look at their acrylic abstracts. The artist started with a mini-collage, mostly made from magazine pages and then reproduced it with paint on a large canvas. I might have to try that out some day.
One day we hiked the creek path and ended up at the university. It turned out to be "dorm move-in day." It was the most organized move-in day I've ever seen. There were tons of parents and freshmen in their SUVs, pickup trucks, and minivans all lined up single file, snaking through the aisles of the parking lot just like the tourists waiting in line for the roller coaster at Six Flags. You weren't supposed to park your car, because when you got to the head of the line, a couple upperclassmen ran out with big laundry carts, unpacked all the clothes, pillows, posters, computers, and whatever else kids bring to college these days, and then personally escorted them into the dorm to their rooms. Very slick.
And, of course, every time Courtney comes to town, we always go out to eat (and eat and eat). I think over the 4 days of her visit we had empanadas, hamburgers, sushi, eggs benedict, and chef's salad. Oh well, good thing I'm wracking up all those steps on my Fitbit.
