I got inspired to start my "virtual" Appalachian Trail walks after watching YouTube videos of actual hikers. My favorite vlogger is Amanda Bess (aka. Peewee). In her latest video, she is "hiking" in New Hampshire, but the trails are so rocky and steep that the hikers call it "bouldering."
Bruce and I recently hiked the Mt Sanitas trail in Boulder, Colorado. It was described as one of the most popular trails - only 3 miles long with a difficulty rating of medium. Well there's a reason the town was named Boulder, because the trail was almost straight up 1,343 ft and littered with rocks. I felt very virtuous, just like Amanda on her trek through the Appalachian Trail, but I was irritated when I got to the bottom and found that I'd only logged about 8,000 steps for all that hard work. But on the bright side, at least I didn't have to camp out in the woods at the end of the day.
