We're certainly not winning any races in our virtual hike, but we're slowly making our way up the California coast. Janet's made it as far as Oceanside - a great place to stop and lay out on the beach. I've made it to Irvine, a suburb of LA. I Google'd the top things to do in Irvine and shopping at the Spectrum Center was on everyone's list. It's very pretty with a giant ferris wheel in the middle, but why do people think ferris wheels will encourage shopping??? So many malls have ferris wheels these days - the Palisades Center in NY, the Navy Pier in Chicago, the High Roller in Las Vegas, there's even a ferris wheel in Singapore (which incidentally happens to be the second tallest ferris wheel in the world - the High Roller is 9 ft taller). If I'm going to spend time on a ferris wheel, I might as well walk 10 more miles down the road and ride the real thing at Disneyland.
