Alexa woke us up early yesterday morning saying there was a flash flood warning. We ignored her, since we weren't planning to go out driving and went back to sleep. In hindsight, we should have paid attention, because when we went downstairs, the carpeting in the basement was soaked. We were pretty frustrated, since the basement has been waterproofed and there are no cracks in the foundation, but it seems the water table is so high from the non-stop rain we've been having that the water literally came up through a tiny crack in the floor. After trying to soak up the water with towels, we finally gave up and decided to just rip up the carpet.
I guess it could have been worse. Our next-door neighbors (whose house is lower than ours) had a lake in front of their basement garage door and they had to call Roto-Rooter to get it to drain.
