Two months ago, our basement flooded right before we went on vacation. This seems to be a common problem in our neighborhood, partly from all the rain we've been having, and most likely from simply living in an old house. So instead of always worrying about it, we decided to rip out the carpet and just paint the floor. I'll have to say that I think it looks better than it did before.
