Chicago Thanksgiving

I flew to Chicago early this year so I could get in a day of drawing with one of their local urban sketchers.
We met at the Chicago Cultural Center - a former library with gorgeous architecture (windows, staircases, domes, and tilework).
Courtney had a construction meeting earlier in the day (notice the hard hat and work boots), but she joined us later. We stopped at Argo Tea for a chocolate chestnut chai tea (try saying that 3 times quickly).
Janet came to Chicago the next day for a birthday shopping spree.
We took the train over to the German Christmas market in the Loop, but it was closed due to the high winds. It was even windier than usual for Chicago with gusts over 60 mph. At times, it literally blew us backwards.
So instead we met Courtney for lunch at the Corner Bakery. They both had soup and sandwiches. I had their cranberry cinnamon bread (yum).
Our main goal was to make it down to Janet's favorite purse store, Vera Bradley (all the way at the end of Michigan). But along the way, she picked up 2 sweaters, one with penguins on the front (just perfect for winter).
I didn't think it was very crowded on Michigan Ave until we got to the new 4-story Starbucks Roastery. People were lined up 5 rows-deep and around the block waiting to get in.
But of course, my favorite store was the Lego shop. I picked up 3 mini-figs dressed like referees. Notice the one on the left with the blond hair and white ball cap. I call her "little Michele."
