Even though we're under self-imposed quarantine, the Missouri parks are open for hiking as long as you honor social distancing. So Bruce and I decided to take advantage of our one sunny day this past week and go for a hike. The flowers weren't quite blooming yet, but the grass and trees were starting to green up.
Since we've had so much rain, the creek was really flowing making several waterfalls. Not quite Niagra, but pretty for Missouri.
Usually the trail is pretty dry, but we had to cross the creek a few times since it was so high. At one particularly deep spot, they'd flattened the top of an old log to make a bridge across. Luckily I didn't fall in while crossing it.
Hawn State Park is very hilly and rocky - nice views, but a little nerve-wracking if you get too close to the edge of a bluff, which Bruce loves to do (that's about a hundred-foot dropoff behind him). We normally end our Hawn hikes with a trip to Dairy Queen. But while the drive-through was open, the line of cars was long and slow so we opted to just head home. Bummer.
