There aren't a lot of outdoor activities you can participate in comfortably when it's 94 degrees outside with a heat index of 105°, but Courtney and I got up early to kayak down the Meramec River. The last time we kayaked this river in the summer, it was so sluggish we had to paddle the entire way. So we weren't prepared for how strong the current was - especially since our plan was to paddle upstream and then float back down to the car. Paddling against the current was a real workout. Luckily I brought along some snacks so we made ourselves a little picnic before packing up to go back home.
