Back in February when I stopped in a Florida Walmart, there was a 4 ft robot following me around. Turns out that Walmart employed 500 of these robots in various stores to take inventory. The robots would wander up and down the aisles scanning the shelves looking for out-of-stock or misplaced products. I'll have to admit that even though I'm a big robot-lover, this device kind of creeped me out, mostly because it was so large. I must not have been the only person with some concerns, because Walmart has decided to "lay off" the robots and replace them with humans. So much for people always worrying that robots are going to take over their jobs. Now people are taking jobs away from robots! I guess that isn't any more bizarre than everything else that's been happening this year.
