Fat Tuesday
This has been the most depressing 12 months. Today is Fat Tuesday, normally the busiest day of the year in New Orleans, but this is a view of Bourbon Street at 6pm. The last time I saw it this empty, I had gotten up at 6am to go jogging before a Vernier workshop. And even at that hour, there were street cleaners on every corner cleaning up the discarded Hurricane glasses from the previous nights' partying.
Back in 1974, I went to New Orleans with the Mizzou Drill Team. We marched in a couple parades, including the Krewe of Iris. I wonder if we'll ever be comfortable in crowds again?
So today in honor of Fat Tuesday, I dressed up in about 10 layers of clothing and headed off to Starbucks. The sun came out and warmed everything up to 5°F - a heat wave compared to the negative temps we've had the last few days. Bruce, of course, did his usual "celebrating" by shoveling the 6 inches of snow off the driveway.
