From Shoveling Snow to Shoveling Mulch

Last week Bruce was shoveling snow in single-digit temps. This week, my neighbors are running around in shorts and we're shoveling mulch into the gardens trying to get a jump on the weeds.

Every other year, I order a truckload of mulch from Kirkwood Supply, but instead of sending us regular hardwood mulch, I think they deliver magic mulch. No matter how many times we fill up the wheel barrow, the pile never seems to go down. But eventually we got it all distributed, though I'm not sure if this year's flower bulbs are going to be able to find their way to the top. We spread it on pretty thick.

This was another busy week. On Wednesday, we got our second COVID vaccine shot. Yeah! It feels like such a relief to not have to worry about "am I going to catch it and be one of the people who die from it." I've heard some people have adverse reactions to the shot, but other than being a little tired the next day with a sore arm, it wasn't much different than getting a flu shot.

On Thursday, we had our pre-drywall walk-thru. Originally we'd hoped to do it in-person, but with all the snow (both here and in Colorado), traveling didn't seem like a smart option. So once again, Zoom came to the rescue. This is a view of the great room - the fireplace is to the right and that PVC pipe is serving as the railing for the stairway to the basement (hopefully they'll replace it with something more elegant).

I'll have to say, I was having a hard time getting excited about seeing our future kitchen island.

And at times, it was confusing trying to figure out what we were looking at. This is the view of the master shower with the master closet behind it and the guest room behind that... I think.

The most exciting thing to me was seeing the inspector trudging through the snow. Once he gives his OK, they can start putting up drywall.

To round out the week, I played Splendor with Joyce, had a painting session with Courtney, and attended my German class, all via Zoom. I'll be so glad when I can sit down with a real human being again instead of just my computer.
