Happy St Patrick's Day
The days have been rainy and gray the last couple weeks, but at least the flowers have managed to poke through the 6 inches of mulch we laid down. I don't know if the wild rabbits died over the winter or they've taken up residence in someone else's yard, but they haven't been using our garden for a salad buffet like they usually do. So fingers crossed that we don't have a cold-snap before the flowers have a chance to bloom.
And speaking of cold, poor Denver got 27 inches of snow over the weekend - the 4th largest snowfall on record. I'm glad it happened this year and not next when we'll be living there. Up to this point, Denver has had better winter weather than we have with daily temps up in the 60's and 70's. That's why the builder has been making such great progress on the house having completely finished the roof and siding.
We passed the 2-week mark for our 2nd vaccine shot - at which point we're supposed to be 95% safe from the virus. So for the first time in a year, I went out to lunch and ate INSIDE a restaurant. Even without the vaccine, I probably would have been safe, because the restaurant was dead-empty at noon on a Monday. I felt sorry for the owners, because I don't know how they can stay in business. But they must have a good following, because I noticed our server made multiple trips out to the parking lot with takeout orders.
I had my last German class Thursday. I think it was worth the time spent, because I learned basic pronunciation and several useful phrases in case I'm ever able to visit there in the future. I just wish the instructor would have been a little more savvy on Zoom and gone at a faster pace. I think she spent more time discussing her internet woes than she did on verb conjugation. There are still several chapters in the textbook to cover, but I think I'll just use Google translate and teach myself.
Courtney and I are still doing Saturday paint days on Zoom. I found an online class called "31 Days of Flower Painting." The video clips are only about 10-minutes each, so we manage to cover about 3 per day. It's really been kind of fun, because the instructor is so flowy and fast - not a technique Courtney nor I are known for. But if we get good enough, Courtney and I plan to go paint at the botanical garden the next time I'm in Chicago.
