Today they're doing the appraisal on our St Louis house. Last week we got a 37-page appraisal report on our Colorado house. Frankly, I don't understand the whole business of property appraisals. Anyone who's ever hosted a garage sale knows that an item's "worth" is whatever someone is willing to pay for it. About a third of our report involved a description of the house, another third what other houses in the area were selling for, and a final third with legal verbiage disclaiming anything they said in the first two-thirds. It was nice to see pictures of our new house, especially the new washer and dryer in the laundry room. I dread to think what kind of pictures the appraiser is going to take of our St Louis house, because it's been stripped down to the bare bones and is currently filled with packing boxes. The good news is houses are selling like hot cakes in our neighborhood, so they should have a lot to compare ours to.
