New Patio Set

Last July, I tried to buy some patio furniture for the back deck, but everybody knows that by the middle of summer, it's easier to buy Halloween candy than it is something actually usable in the summer. So following today's shopping trends, I went online March 1st in the middle of a snowstorm and ordered a bar top table and chairs.
A few days later, Home Depot sent me a text that they were ready for pickup.

However, Home Depot failed to mention that only the chairs had arrived. The table was off some where in FedEx-land. But a few days later (during another snowstorm), the table finally showed up and Bruce was able to put everything together. Since the snow has mostly melted, I was able to put them on the deck and take a photo. I think the set looks very nice and will get a lot of use this summer, since we like to eat dinner outside.

Bruce was recently selected to talk about his book at an Author Showcase being held this summer at the library. So on Saturday, we drove down to Castle Rock to see what their Author Showcase was like. There were 10 different authors who each got 5 minutes to talk about his or her book. The genres ranged from fantasy to memoirs to children's books. I don't think anyone had written a psychological thriller. After the talks, each author set up on tables around the room so that people could purchase a signed copy or just talk to the author. The table settings reminded me a lot of the days I used to work conferences for Vernier, though my boss would have fired me if she'd seen this wrinkly tablecloth and Starbucks cup.

Janet and I are continuing our 52 Hike Challenge, though "hike" is a bit misleading. With all the snow and cold this past week, we opted to walk to our respective neighborhood clubhouses. It wasn't the most scenic hike, but at least it satisfied the one mile requirement. (BTW, that blue in the background is actually the cover on the swimming pool, not blue water. It's still very cold out, even though the sun is shining.)

A few weeks ago, I helped the Craft Club sew table toppers for some upcoming clubhouse functions. It put me in the mood to do a sewing project of my own.

So on Thursday, I headed to JoAnn's and bought some fabric to make a toddler quilt. Originally, I was looking for fabric to make monster appliques since that's a really easy shape to sew, but I just didn't think monsters went well with flowers and hearts. So instead, I found some cute fabric with butterflies, bees, and other comical insects and decided to make a bug quilt. Still not your traditional baby theme, but I think it will be fun to make. I already drew up the patterns for the applique.
