On January 10th, Bruce's mom turned 100. It's hard to believe I know someone who's lived an entire century - the things she must have seen during her lifetime. These days there's a ton of debate on the best way to eat, whether it be gluten-free, low-carb, plant-based, keto, etc. I think Margie's secret (besides a hearty gene-pool) was living on a farm and eating vegetables from her own garden.
On January 26th, Melissa turned 40. Yikes! Hard to believe I have a goddaughter that old. But while people dread turning 40, I thought my 40's were some of the best years of my life. The diaper-changing years are almost over and you just get to have fun with your kids and husband.
Melissa is one of those lucky people who never seem to age. She looks the same at 40 as she did when she was in high school. And she's also just as skinny, though chasing after 4 kids and 2 dogs would probably keep anyone slim.
I never could figure out where Melissa picked up the tradition of letting her babies celebrate their first birthdays by eating their own individual birthday cake. But as I was going through old family photos, I found one of Melissa eating a cake on her own first birthday. Maybe Janet should give up the wearable art on our birthdays and just get us each our own cake. I'll take Black Forest Chocolate on mine.
