Bruce did another Meet the Author presentation for the neighborhood folks. It was really well attended, partly because they served wine and snacks (old people seem to be obsessed with free food events), but mostly due to the topic - mystery thrillers. The organizers said this is the first time they've seen men show up to one of these presentations. Unfortunately, the projector bulb burned out at the last minute, so Bruce rushed home and grabbed our TV from the bedroom. Except for being a little low, I actually thought the picture quality was much better than the outdated overhead projector they usually use.
At first they all freaked out when I said they had to draw using an ink pen (I was afraid we'd be there forever if I gave them pencils). Surprisingly, most of the drawings turned out really well. I had them do really simple objects - a coffee cup, piece of candy, a chunk of French bread, the rock planter just outside the window, and the back view of a person (me wearing a hoodie). Adding color seemed a little harder for them, probably because we were using waterbrushes - the water for the paint is in the handle of the brush. It's a bit like a ketchup bottle - nothing comes out, but then suddenly you get a gush of water. I think they did really great, but I much prefer being a participant than being the leader.
I went out to lunch with my Ladies Out to Lunch (LOL) group on Monday. We went to a Thai restaurant that I'd never been to before. I ordered the pad thai (noodles in a peanut sauce) and took over half of it home. You sure get your money's worth with Asian food.
On Tuesday, the Girls Just Want to Have Fun group went to the movies to see 80 for Brady. The movie has a great crew of actresses (Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Rita Moreno, and Sally Field), but the script was a bit slapstick and the casting a little odd (Sally Field as a math nerd... seriously????). Some of us wore team jerseys in honor of SuperBowl Sunday. The best part of going on Tuesday is that tickets for seniors are only $5 (they're normally $18!!!). We saw some really good upcoming chick-flicks in the previews, so hopefully we'll all do this again.
Courtney and I did another paint session on GoogleMeet. You can tell her drawing is from Chicago with the older apartment buildings mixed in with the high-rises. It makes me want to go back and visit, though I'm waiting for much warmer weather.
Our snow is FINALLY starting to melt down a bit. We can actually see some grass on the south side of the houses. Since our house faces north, our snow probably won't be totally gone until April. Of course, if the temperature doesn't warm up, it may not melt off until June. When I woke up this morning, we were back down into the teens. Brrrrr!
