Spring Has Finally Arrived!
Well it hasn't snowed for several weeks, so my "spring" flowers have finally started blooming. According to my St Louis friends, their flowers have been blooming since March and everyone is already complaining about the heat. I'm still wearing long-sleeved shirts and sweatshirts.
But we aren't into sunny days yet. All our snow has turned to rain. Supposedly this season is called "muddy May," and I can believe it. Poor Bruce has been trying to dig the post holes for our fence, but they keep filling up with water.
So instead, he started leveling out the sidewalk along the back of the house. We built the little retaining wall last fall, but we used the sod we ripped up from the front yard as filler to level out the path. There's a lot more sod over to the left that needs to be leveled out before we can start putting in plants.
Our neighborhood hosted another 5K last weekend. I signed up and agreed to participate, mostly to get the shirt. One of my neighbors is starting a Walking Club on Monday and Wednesday nights, so I thought I might join. Supposedly they say the walking path behind our house has great views of the sunset.
But I actually only did about 3 kilometers of the 5K, because Bruce and I were going on a picnic with the Hiking Club that afternoon (at least I got my shirt). Bruce and I went a little early to the park so we could do some hiking, but I chickened out when we got to this boulder crossing. Bruce managed to hop across, but you can see most of the people in the club needed help getting across. Unfortunately, one of the helpers ended up falling in.
So it was back to the shelter for a potluck barbeque. It's been ages since anyone has cooked over a charcoal fire, so it took these guys quite a while to get the fire hot enough to cook the hot dogs and hamburgers. Luckily they got finished before ANOTHER rainstorm chased us home.
The Girls Just Want to Have Fun club went to the movies again on $5 Tuesday. This time we saw "Book Club: The Next Chapter" with Diane Keaton, Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen, and Candice Bergen. Hysterical! I'll have to say I think I liked the sequel better than the original, but they were both good.
I went to a quilt expo this past week in Castle Rock. You can sure tell COVID is over, because the place was packed. I got there a little early thinking I would do some sketching before the show, but people were already lined up around the building waiting to get in.
I had originally intended just to go for the quilt talks, but I ended up buying an applique kit of a Colorado mountain scene. There are a million tiny little pieces to this thing, so even though it is only 32" x 32", it will probably take me months to finish. Sounds like a good winter project.
One of my teacher friends from SLUH came into town. He's volunteering this summer at the Fish Hatchery in Leadville. Bruce is really excited about that, because he's been wanting to visit Leadville.
I had planned to meet Eric over on I-70 just as he was coming into town. When I Google-Mapped it, I discovered that the Highline Canal Trail ran right through there. So I put my bike on the car and left a couple hours early. Since Janet and I have finished our virtual Colorado Trail hike, this is my next fitness adventure - only real this time, not virtual.
