Yard Work Completed

Well the rain finally held off long enough for Bruce to sink the last fence post. It was still a tiny bit muddy, but he was determined to get it finished. The fence doesn't seem to be keeping any deer out of our yard (they just hop over), but hopefully it will keep the dog in.

We decided to hold off on putting in any more plants until fall, but we went ahead and ordered a load of mulch to cover up the dirt and give the backyard a finished look.

Even though there aren't many plants yet, I think the backyard looks very nice and the good news is we don't have to mow the grass every week. Those flowers in the middle of the mulch are the ones I planted last year in my "test" garden. Evidently I chose well, because they are really flourishing this year. The only trouble is they're going to have to be moved this fall, because they are right in front of the basement door.

Our Bike Club tried to go on a ride around the neighborhood bike trails. Unfortunately, one of the girl's bike tires exploded partway down the trail. I'm guessing it was just old and not overheated from the warm day, but they had a devil of a time trying to patch it. It was a good thing we weren't miles away from home. She was close enough to just walk back.

I went to the Lavender Festival last weekend. It was being held at the Botanical Garden's historical farm site. I was a little disappointed in the lack of attention to lavender. It seemed to be more of a carnival atmosphere with food trucks, live music, and a petting zoo. There were also a ton of mosquitoes and flies which I'm not really used to.

I tried to do some sketching, but ended up heading over to a local coffee shop. I'm really not much of a coffee drinker, but I've become addicted to decorative mochas and scones. Most mochas tend to be a glorified (and expensive) version of chocolate milk... but they sure are pretty and tasty!

In dog news, our little puppy, Charlie, is 3 weeks old. His eyes are open and he has a quirky one-sided mustache. He's started walking but is still a bit shaky when standing up. Though I've seen him chase after his mama dog when he is hungry - which seems to be all the time. The breeder added a bunch of stuffed animals into their space for the puppies to play with, but mostly they seem to use the toys for pillows.
