Breckenridge

Last year, Bruce and I went up to the mountains and I tried to ride my bike from Frisco to Breckenridge. I made it about halfway, but I wasn't in very good shape at the time. When I mentioned it to my Bike Club, they all wanted to turn it into a day trip. So this past week, 10 of us went up there with our bikes (Bruce included).

It's 11 miles from Frisco to Breckenridge, which doesn't seem like a lot, but it's all uphill since Breckenridge has to be on top of a mountain for skiing. We stopped several times along the way to take pictures of the gorgeous scenery (and to catch our breath), and when we got to the top, we stopped at the Cool River Coffee Shop for a break.

They had tons of scrumptious treats in their pastry counter. I ended up getting a huckleberry crumb bar and splitting it with Bruce. This place was a little unique in that they had a lot of flavored coffees on their menu, but most of their "flavors" involved liquor. I guess in the winter when you're taking a break from skiing, you might want a Whiskey Nitro to warm you up, but I have enough trouble staying on my bike as it is without adding alcohol.

We skipped the booze at the top of the hill and instead had beer and brats at the Ein Prosit German restaurant in Frisco.

Bruce and I stuck around for another day and drove up to Leadville to see my SLUH friend, Eric, who is volunteering at the Fish Hatchery this summer. He gave us a tour of the hatchery (thankfully after that long bike ride we just rode around the property in a golf cart). Then we went out to dinner at a local restaurant. I ordered the trout and then Eric kept teasing me that I was eating one of his "friends" from the fishery. Ick. I know it looks like all we did was eat and drink on this trip. I probably should have taken more scenery photos, because it was really pretty up in the mountains... that is until we got caught in a really bad thunderstorm on the way home.

When we got back to town, Bruce and I went to the neighborhood summer concert. This month the band was Ronnie Raygun and the Big Eighties (obviously judging by the dress). They were really good even though I'm not the biggest fan of 80's music. They had a face painting booth for the kids and all of them were running around with creepy cat faces looking like the members of the old Kiss band.

I finally got my Temu order in the mail. A lot of my sketching friends have been ordering art supplies on Temu. Temu is China's version of Amazon. It's an online store where you can order just about anything and they are really cheap. The trouble is, it takes forever to get your order, since it's being shipped from China (I'm spoiled by Amazon's 2-day shipping). I will admit that I got an awful lot of art supplies for only $35 and they were pretty good quality. I'll probably order from them again.

In dog news, Charlie is almost 4 weeks old. The breeder has started weaning the puppies since they are getting so big and the poor mother dog is getting so skinny. Charlie doesn't seem to be having any adjustment issues. Even without teeth, he's wolfing down that kibble.

I've always thought that he and the orange female looked like twins based on their white feet, noses, and the spot on their heads. This week the breeder uploaded photos of each and I didn't realize that Ms Orange's face is the mirror image of Charlie with her right-sided mustache. Weird. Janet think's they both look like that old tennis statue of Bruce that my mom made.
