... or should I say, Happy Halloween. Walmart already has the Halloween candy out next to the shelves for school supplies. Since I love chocolate, I'm not complaining; but it does seem a little early.
The garden centers have marked all their plants down to half-price, so I went over to Tagawa's and bought a carload of stuff for the back yard. Unfortunately, the back yard gets sun almost all day long, so I have to work either very early or very late in the afternoon to avoid the sun. Bruce doesn't seem to be bothered by it. He just keeps getting tanner and tanner.
I decided to plant another pine tree in the back yard. Of the 3 trees I planted last spring, 2 are doing very well, but one is struggling. Since it's a drought-tolerant species, I think all the rain we've been getting is drowning it. Bruce keeps digging up the gravel in the side yard trying to redirect the runoff from both ours and the neighbor's sump pumps. Luckily this spot in the back yard gets no runoff from anything. I just hope we don't have the opposite problem and it dries out. Next spring, we'll run an irrigation line to it.
I had to get a blood test earlier in the week for my annual physical. The thing I hate about those is that you can't eat or drink anything for 12 hours beforehand. So I scheduled my appointment for the first one of the day and then headed off to Panera's for breakfast immediately afterwards. Since I'm a morning person, it's a lot easier for me to skip dinner than breakfast.
My bike club went out on Monday to tackle some more of the Highline Canal Trail. We only covered 3 miles before we met up with a road construction detour. So we turned around and went back the other way, but just got caught again. I understand road crews can't do construction in the winter, but it's frustrating to have summer fun interrupted.
I thought I'd be able to finish the Highline Canal Trail in about a month, but it seems like there's construction all over. Almost every single place on the map you see a dark green line (the trail) intersecting a lime green line (a freeway), there is something going on. I think Janet and I walked 500 miles of the Colorado Trail faster than I've been able to bike the 71 miles of the Highline Canal Trail.
Only 1 more week until we pick up our puppy. He had his 6-week checkup with the vet this week and passed with flying colors (he's the one on the left). He and his brother (the white dog) are up to 5-1/2 pounds already. I bought him one of those little dog beds for his crate, but I wonder if he'll actually sleep in it. Every time I watch the puppy-cam, he's lying totally spread out on the floor next to the beds.
